Very basic, but good information for beginners. I don't know what else to say and don't understand why the review MUST be at least 20 words.Product details

Medicinal Herbs A beginners guide to Medicinal Herbs Erik Smith 9781521307533 Books Reviews
thank you
Erik Smith is a prolific writer of self-help books. Some of his many publications include ENLIGHTENED RUNNING, FORAGING, STRESS MANAGEMENT, CARBOHYDRATE CYCLING FOR WOMEN, NATURAL TESTOSTERONE BOOSTERS FOR MEN, HIGH FIBER FOODS, GRATITUDE JOURNAL, GREEN SMOOTHIES, TEA CLEANSES - and more. Now he calms us down with MEDICINAL HERBS.
Erik sets the tone of his warmly shared information in his Introduction ‘It is still quite a mystery how and when herbs became a staple in the field of medicine. However, everyone agrees that medicinal herbs have been around for thousands of years. In fact, there is proof that herbs existed during the prehistoric times. Below is a short timeline on the history of medicinal herbs. In 1960, a burial site was unearthed in Iraq where eight different kinds of medicinal herbs were buried along with the remains of a Neanderthal human. It was discovered at the Shanidar Cave and is estimated to be between 60,000 and 80,000 years old. The famous Lascaux cave paintings in France include depictions of some herbs. These ancient drawings were made around 13,000 to 25,000 B.C. according to carbon dating. Another ancient human remain was discovered in the Swiss Alps in 1991 carrying a birch fungi. The 5,300-year-old Otzi Iceman was probably suffering from intestinal parasites, as this herb is known as an effective treatment for such condition. A stone tablet made around 3000 B.C. or during the Third Dynasty of Ur contained a number of medicinal cures that included the willow bark. Emperor Shen Nung who lived until 2698 B.C. is believed to be responsible for the Pen Ts’ao or The Canon of Herbs, a collection of 252 herbs used by the Ancient Chinese as medicine…etc” It is obvious he has done his research.
Erik then discusses the popular medicinal herbs – defines them, informs us of the medicinal benefits, how to use them, and how to grow them. . Herbs discusses Acai, Agrimony, Alfalfa, Aloe Vera, Amla, Basil, Chamomile, Chives, Eucalyptus, Ginseng, Lavender, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Stevia, Thyme, and Turmeric.
Erik’s manner of presentation is a pleasure to read and it would be difficult to come away from his book without embracing the concept he offers. Grady Harp, September 17
Very well written and easy to understand. I particularly liked the "how to grow " sections. There is a lot of good information in this book. The one thing I think that detracts from it is there are no pictures of the herbs. Otherwise it is a valuable reference to have in your library.
Beginner's is SO true. Nothing easily found online with little knowledge or difficulty in this book.
A great read if you are an earthy person like I am.
Very basic, but good information for beginners. I don't know what else to say and don't understand why the review MUST be at least 20 words.
